The wormery is indoors now

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

Its too cold now for the wormery to live outside, the worms were becoming very sluggish. The wheelie bin is half full and there are millions of worms of all different sizes. And the bin is filling up with what looks to be lovely compost.

I have cured the problem of fruit flies by covering the top of the bin with a sheet of old mosquito netting fastened with elastic. Just need something to keep the compost smell in next !

Does that look like early August?

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

Here is a photo taken from the ferry at Coran as we crossed to the ardnamurchan peninsula in early August this year - it looks like it was winter, and the weather didn’t get much better.

The Ardnamurchan peninsula ( most westerly point on the British mainland) is protected from all but the most resolute visitor by miles of “single track road with passing places” that are very twisty and slow. It is a double edged sword - the lack of access protects the beautiful scenery which the locals love but it does make living there more expensive ( 1 hour in car + ferry to get to nearest supermarket) and difficult. Talking to some residents of Shielfoot what they really want is good roads so they can get in and out easily and some way to keep the day trippers away (toll/passport?).
