I bought them a bag of peat and put the worms in a 20 cm thick layer of it at the bottom of their bin. With a thin layer of vegetable rubbish above it, thats decaying nicely (and very smellily) and I’m starting to see worms moving around it as though they are hungry. The peat is a definite improvement over the ripped up newspaper I tried before, no sign of that nasty sour smell…

The dogs patiently waited all day for their walk so we went for a dog scooter ride around the park, lovely and cold and crisp about 1 degree. The dogs ran the whole way including a detour into the woods at speed again - must attach my cam to me somehow… We should all sleep well.
Handing over work to US colleagues means I have been late leaving work so its cold and WET.. I’m getting just a bit fed up with being cold and WET.. Thought it is slowly paying off as we have several flights of steps up to our floor of the Sun campus and I am not out of breath marching up them, but you do see people gasping at the top…
I’m still using my trek 5200 summer bike - with several flashing red lights at the back and a really bright white led lamp at the front. I could move to my winter bike with mudguards and all that but its so much heavier and slower. The wet weather is playing havoc with the trek, I’m keeping the chain clean and greasing cables but it can’t do the old girl any good..
Its very warm again, about 10 degrees and foggy. The dogs only had a short walk this morning so I ran them for a couple of miles in the dark with a head torch on. Cleo had Finns old ManMatt howling dog harness, Finn had his new harness, both had reflective strips round their paws as you never know what you might meet around here. Even on Halloween some car drivers were surprised to meet pedestrians around the lanes of Upper Hale in the early evening.
As I said ebay and flickr names resolved to Comcast IP addresses over the weekend, with the result of lots of 404 http error from a slightly surprised Comcast server.. I thought I’d ask BT who supply our ADSL if it might have been them that messed up DNS or were we being spoofed. The technician asked for a traceroute to see how the packets were getting to Comcast. I guess we wont resolve it that way..

The wormery went sour and all nasty so it and the few remaining tiger worms went out on the garden compost, determined to try again I bought 450 new worms and they arrived today. They are really feisty, lots of movement, real escape artists I keep having to collect handfuls up off the utility floor! I’m going to follow the instructions this time and leave them alone to establish themselves before feeding them too much…
on the way home, it rained heavily all the way, but that was small punishment for gloating as I rode past some very long traffic jams on the way to work this morning, seems like Fleet/Farnborough/Cove were all chocked up for the cagers..
