snow in October!

Friday, October 31st, 2008

It snowed the other night - nearly an inch so in the morning I took Cleo and Finn out for a run in the fields. They loved it but still they get too hot and that was at 2 degrees C.  I got some photos so I’ll add those later..

3 weeks in Padstow, 19 days of rain :-(

Monday, September 1st, 2008

A nice damp summer holiday in Padstow Cornwall. luckily the house had a covered patio to sit on a read whilst the rain came down. Even so we got lots done - it was only miserable one day. Went horse riding on Bodmin Moor, paintballing near Camelford - ouch! ate lots of pasties, drank a bit of beer ( doom bar!), walked the dogs a lot. The dogs got patted everywhere in the town, met several people who had left their Samoyed at home ( why!) but didn’t see any others.

Finn likes to dig on a beach and bark manically at kites, Cleo is more refined but will dig small holes in the sand, at least the weather was cool enough for them to enjoy it.. ( about 18 degrees C average).

Didn’t get to the Camel trail as it was too wet, and the grass was two foot long when we got home took two days to cut with my eco hand mover…

now its back to the grind…

alice holt forest

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

Went for a slow walk around Alice Holt forest on Saturday, Finn and Cleo had a play in the long grass but then I had to sit and pick the deer ticks off them, I got 10 of the little things off them. I worry about the kids that play in the grass or sit on it for picnics - don’t they collect ticks as well - I wonder if you can frontline your kids?

Samoyeds do have a high prey drive, Finn will catch mice in hedgerows and Cleo will destroy mole hills, but if the dogs are brought up with cats from being a puppy they should not hurt them. Lots of chasing but no damage so far.

first deer tick of the year…

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

Finn had a little deer tick walking about on his head last night, the weather must be warming up - nasty horrid things..

funny who you meet in the woods

Wednesday, February 6th, 2008

Damon Hill and his family, luckily I did not recognise him until after our short chat about the dogs. I wonder which is worse to be famous and not be recognised or to be famous and be hassled by the fans?

Finn might have a heart murmur..

Monday, February 4th, 2008

At his annual checkup the vet thought she might have heard a slight heart murmur! We will go back and see Mr Wynn the senior partner and get his opinion. Its certainly a worry but he has so much energy I hope the vet was mistaken - he certainly has a lot of fur so listening is hard and after a 40 minute wait in the vets he was very hot and panting. So Thursday he will stay out in the car and keep cool to limit the panting..

good luck …

… to the man cycling to church crookham from brighton this evening on an old mountain bike. At least he had proper cycling shoes and toe clips.. It was snowing a little as we went scootering around the park in the dark - but still warmish at 4 degrees.

will it please stop raining…

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

Its 10 degrees and raining, the park is all mud, the dogs are wet and muddy - especially Cleo as the mud is deeper than her legs are long! I’ve been running them around the concrete path around the Park at night as its a bit cooler and they keep going..
