11 December 2008

Hello all,

**** CRONDALL'S STOCKING FILLER 5.5% NOW AVAILABLE ****

Last week saw the launch of Crondall's Stocking Filler. It is a very
seasonal tasting beer and has already proved popular. We have taken quite a
lot of orders for this beer already. If you wish to come along and have a
taste, please call into the brewery during our opening times for your free
taster.

CRONDALL BREWERY GIFT ITEMS

We have in stock our very own pint glasses displaying our logo. We also
have embroidered T-Shirts, Woolie Beanie Hats and bottle opener key rings.
We have just taken delivery of a further supply of the Beanie Hats as last
week they were so popular and we didn't want to run short.

FANTASY FUDGE

Fantasy Fudge is a local company run by Karen Newman. Karen is a chef by
trade and runs a company based near Basingstoke. Karen displays the
requisite Food Hygiene Certificate and here premises are are registered with
the Local Authority Enviromental health Food Safety Team.

Karen has supplied us with Fudge, Christmas Puddings, Champagne Truffles and
Violet and Rose Creams.

You may have seen her products around locally, and we can say they are
delicious. A real treat for Christmas.

LOCAL HONEY

As you know local honey is in decline. We have a plentiful supply of Surrey
and Hampshire honey from bee hives which are kept on the Farm and very close
by in Dora's Green Lane.

We also have a supply of honey gift sets which contain a honey marmalade, a
runny honey and a set one and are a snip at only £10.00.

20 November 2008

Hello all,

Rocket Fuel is really popular and well liked again this year. If you still
haven’t tried it, please feel free to come in and ask for a taster. It is
really pleasant to drink whilst sitting around the fireside on these dark
evenings. It also accompanies delicious stews and makes a good steak and
ale pie!

The Harvest Gold is also a favourite of the hoppy beer lovers and we have
recently put the last of it into barrels and it is likely to only last
another 3 weeks. We are trying to see that these two seasonal beers last
until December when our Christmas beer will be ready.

CHRISTMAS ORDERS

We are now taking orders for Christmas. The advantage of ordering your
beer is to ensure that your beer is ready and awaiting your collection, thus
saving you time in having to wait in a queue. Last year we ran out of some
of the beers and although we have increased production significantly this
year, we wouldn’t like any of our customers to be disappointed.

The Party 9’s make great presents, especially when they are gift wrapped.
We have a couple of them on display at the brewery to wet your appetite.
Should you want your gift to look amazing, then just let us know and we will
have it wrapped for you.

The brewery opening times over the festive season are as follows:-

Friday 19 December 3.00pm - 7.00pm
Saturday 20 December 10.00am - 4.30pm

PARTY DELIVERY SERVICE

This service goes from strength to strength and is really popular. So many
people like the idea of having the beer delivered at a time to coincide with
the arrival of their guests. We also can design bespoke pumpclips for that
special occasion, if you want to have your own beer clip, please let us know
and we will arrange something for you. Orders can be processed by
telephoning us on 01252 319000.

london opensolaris users group LOSUG

November 20th, 2008

went there last night - two good presentations. beer/food…

  • a tool to  display system configuration in a sort of graphical manner, it just proves that parsing unstable command line output is fraught with uncertainty - of course is there a stable way to do this ?
  • a presentation on FUSE - File system in USErland .  which is a generic filesystem shim and a library  that talks to the shim and you implement all the vfsop type  function in userland eg read/write/stat/open/sync… you only need to implement the ones you need. The presentor had a “hello world” filesystem that had one file and you can guess its contents - took 20 lines of code. Its not fast but very useful… demo’ed ntfs on solaris.

added more memory to my eeepc 901

November 4th, 2008

Virtualbox  installed like a dream on my linux eeepc.  I had problems with  opensolaris’s pkg command getting into a swapping frenzy due to only 512Mb memory  during a image-upgrade.. so down pcworld for a 2gb SODIMM for 30 pounds took 5 minutes to fit once I found an anti static wrist strap.

Now virtualbox can have 1gb and linux 1gb - all seems to work fine I now have a snv_101 image running after downloading the dvd image. I now have two widgets telling me the battery level ! networking just worked… once I installed the virtualbox client addons the windowing system even adjusted to the slightly odd eeepc resolution of 1024×600..

snow in October!

October 31st, 2008

It snowed the other night - nearly an inch so in the morning I took Cleo and Finn out for a run in the fields. They loved it but still they get too hot and that was at 2 degrees C.  I got some photos so I’ll add those later..

The wormery is indoors now

October 21st, 2008

Its too cold now for the wormery to live outside, the worms were becoming very sluggish. The wheelie bin is half full and there are millions of worms of all different sizes. And the bin is filling up with what looks to be lovely compost.

I have cured the problem of fruit flies by covering the top of the bin with a sheet of old mosquito netting fastened with elastic. Just need something to keep the compost smell in next !

new job for Tim..

October 21st, 2008

I am being either brave or really foolish changing to a new job in the current economic state. Its one of those things you have to do when you find yourself thinking about it. I am going to join Matt working in the Quality office which is a part of Sun’s Engineering organisation. Its farewell to Customer Services after many many years and off to a group that do reactive work for hot customer issues and proactive work trying to make things better. Starting date is Thursday….

solution to the ford galaxy hiccups.

October 21st, 2008

It started several months ago as just the occasional cough, then it started to happen every time I went up the steep beacon hill near church crookham, then once it started it began to continue on 3 cylinders until I stopped and restarted the bus ( and then the door led flashed for several minutes).

I took it into the Ford garage and they wired it up and spotted cyclinder 1’s fuel injector was not working once the car was hot.

900 pounds ( included the 1 week car hire from the very nice folks at 1car1.com) later normality is resumed - I just hope the other 3 don’t go the same way…

Anglian double glazing.

October 21st, 2008

So they agree that the window cracked due to heat buildup between the cushion and the window. But their customer services folks were adamant that that was my fault even though the documentation doesn’t say “dont put soft things near the window”. Clearly a case of unfit for purpose.. But the sad thing is without taking them to court there is nothing I can do other than this… So I paid for another company to replace the window.

Now who shall I get a quote for my new conservatory from ??? damn right not ANGLIAN…
